In addition to family and senior photos, Simon also maintains a photo blog called Weekly Fifty which he started in March 2013 and continues to this day. You can find it online at www.weeklyfifty.com, as well as on YouTube at @weeklyfifty, and each week he shares a photo along with written and audio commentary. The YouTube channel has the same content as the blog except for the writeups, and is also updated each week. He uses Weekly Fifty as a way to continue his lifelong passion for learning and growing as a photographer, and to ensure that his camera is in his hands being used more than on the shelf gathering dust.
In addition to being a thoroughly rewarding and incredibly fulfilling hobby, Weekly Fifty is a way of continuing to work on the fundamentals of photography which then, in turn, helps when doing professional work for clients. At its core, most photography comes down to the simple elements of exposure: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, all of which are crucial whether doing a family session or taking personal photos just for fun. However, as Anakin Skywalker might have while maneuvering his starfighter over Coruscant if he also had a Nikon the cockpit, "Learning about the exposure triangle is where the fun begins." Photography is also about light and shadow, color and contrast, context and meaning, mood and feeling, and so much more. Photography can send a message, evoke sense of time and place, contain a memory, and express through art what can be impossible to say through words. Most importantly of all, photography is never finished. There's always something more to learn, new techniques to try, different angles to photograph the same subject, interesting places to explore, and a whole world of artistic expression to uncover. Weekly Fifty allows Simon to do just that.
Ironically, you won't find Weekly Fifty on Instagram, Facebook, or any other social media. Simon, as with his fair-going counterpart of yore, likes to keep things simple: camera, blog, and a dash of YouTube for people who like that sort of thing. If you enjoy photography, you might check it out. Who k
